Empower Young Leaders Institute Established to Build Student Leaders

Walnut, CA, <July 05, 2008> - In promoting the importance of responsible student leadership, professional development and social awareness, the Empowering Young Leaders Institute was recently established as a non-profit organization. Its mission is to provide young people with fellowship opportunities to build their character through professional development, ethic straining, organizational dynamics, civic participation, and social justice awareness; in Empowering Young Leaders to be responsible leaders in the community.

The administrative staff is composed of a diversity of perspectives, cultures, and leadership philosophies from different cultures and parts of the world. We constantly challenge each other to create a global perspective to leadership and civic engagement. In addition to civic responsibility, there has been recent research presented how leadership education among youth, aid students academically. There have been correlations made on how better communication skills enhance students’ abilities in English and the Arts, how understanding diversity helps students in the social sciences such as History and Government, and how critical thinking aids students in the sciences and math.

In addition, how social justice education, citizenship education, and organizational leadership helps student become more involved in the community and create well-rounded, well-informed and self-driven students. The institute is currently recruiting its 2008 fellowship class of twenty community college students. The program will provide them with personal, organizational, community, social, and responsible leadership skills through workshops that will aim to improve or gain their leader skills.

The Community College Lead Fellowship Conference will be held on August 30, 2008 through September 1, 2008 at the City of Walnut Senior Citizens Center. The applications are now available online at Empowering Young Leaders Institute website which is: www.empoweringyoungleaders.org. The application deadline is August 1, 2008 and interviews will take place on August 4 through August 7.

Workshops will be presented by knowledgeable professionals in various fields. We create a leadership development program catered to the participant’s needs to maximize their personal growth. This is done through the application process, the interviews, recommendations, and personal interactions with the participants.

We believe that each person grows differently and grows with different needs. Each fellowship class will have a different curriculum and different post-fellowship program. Students who participate will be able to network with professionals from different fields of study as well as with fellow student leaders. The post-summit program will include: internships, mentorship's, referrals to other leadership programs catered to their profession or social issue, or community-based projects.

This new style of providing leadership skills and applying them concurrently through the post-summit program will not only help them exercise the skills they have gained through the program, it will help them further develop themselves as leaders in their own right. It is this that sets Empowering Young Leaders Institute apart from others.
